Welcome to The Ridge: Ankou the Great Pyrenees

We have exciting news on The Ridge.. our pack has expanded!

This month we welcomed our future Livestock Guardian Dog, Ankou the Great Pyrenees. It took a lot of planning and research for us to welcome another working dog into our home, especially a Great Pyrenees.

Great Pyrenees require a lot of room, and most importantly a job. While we have experience with working dogs, our experience has solely been with herding dogs. Livestock Guardian breeds have different needs and learning styles.

But after lots of reading up about this breed and talking to other owners of Great Pyrenees we knew this would be the breed for us and our farm’s needs.

It just so happened our friends at Liberty Meadow Farm and Sanctuary rescued a pregnant Great Pyrenees and they had some puppies available for adoption and looking for farms of their own.

We made the trip down to Amherst to meet the litter and their parents, and instantly fell in love with a puppy named “Piglet”. A few weeks later, Piglet joined our pack and has now been renamed Ankou.

The Aussies instantly fell in love with him and welcomed them into the fold. He has been a fantastic addition to our family, and The Ridge. While it will take him some time and lots of training before he takes on his duties as a Livestock Guardian Dog – we are willing to put in the effort.

We can’t wait to take you on our journey training Ankou for his new role and the positive impact having a Livestock Guardian Dog will have on our farm.

Stay tuned for more!
